Remastered by the original artist Debbi LerMond. This long sought after grail horse is now available!

When a high resolution metrology inspection scanning meets a remastered original equine sculpture, something unbelievable occurs.  Something beyond the ability of a silicone mold used for model horse resin casting can do.  What is is?  It’s the ability to digitally capture “all” details of a sculpture so fine that nothing is loss or distorted. Pair this with a high resolution stereolithography printer and high accuracy engineering resin, you get a resin model as close as to original that it is nearly identical.  Shakanah! Remastered! is a limited edition of 50 1:9 Traditional and 50 1:12 Classic scale resins, and a limited number of bonus Curio and Stablemates scale resins.

Shakanah! Remastered Story

I put years of resculpting one of my Ultimate Star resins from the year 2000 in the making of the original Shakanah! Master Resin. Each casting from the painted limited edition of 18 was customized beyond the original mold to make them quite unique and sought after on the secondary market. I took my original Master Resin and started CMing it for myself at the same time I was producing the edition. Here is where it gets interesting – I nearly resculpted the Master again! My remastered Shakanah! started with a completely remodeled head. I then added to his mane, forelock and totally went wild with his tail. I shod him with handmade FXclay shoes, lengthened his cannonbones, softened his muscling, defined his tendons and cleaned up many of the tiny veins on his body. He is still recognizable as Shakanah! but he is Shakanah! like you can only appreciate in person.

From OOAK to Limited Edition

Years ago, I hand delivered my Shakanah! Master Resin to Caroline Boydston to paint for me but he ended up being too fragile to handle, let alone paint. I drove back down to Yucaipa and brought him home to figure out what to do with him. Even after working on him, I could not ship him back to her and lockdowns kept me from hand delivering him again. Printing him in 3D appeared to be my only option. Since the edition was sold out, I could not print any in the 1:8 scale because of the way I set up the edition. Also, there aren’t any printers which could handle that large a scale.
Because I decided a couple of years ago to scan my remastered resin of Shakanah!, I pushed the envelope to catch up with the technology. And then, I had to wait for the 3D printer technology to catch up with me. There was no way to ever produce this resin in any other size than to use digital Metrology and to ultimately 3D print any future editions with high resolution engineering resin. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be so sculpting tiny resins at this point is beyond what I could physically accomplish. I have put thousands of hours into my equine resin editions so it seems fitting to glean from those sculptures to allow more people to be able to purchase my models. I love to hear back from people who have been touched by my sculptures as it makes all of the blood, sweat and tears I put into them worth it. Shakanah! is probably my favorite model that I’ve ever done. Don’t get me wrong. I love them all but he has a special place in my heart. I hope there is a special place in your heart reserved for him as well. These two smaller scale editions of him are set at 50 each so I realize I cannot please everyone but I truly hope the people who really want him are able to get him.
